Professional Boundaries

This course focuses on how managers and frontline staff can adapt to new ways of working both personally and professionally to ensure that everyone remains physically and emotionally safe while delivering a high quality service. The first session will concentrate on the fundamentals and principles of good professional boundaries and the second will draw on scenarios from both participants and trainers for discussion and planning.

By the end of the course participants will have:

  • Explored what professional boundaries mean in the context of care and support work and why they are important for particular groups e.g. service users, staff and organisations
  • Examined the purpose and consequences of self disclosure in a therapeutic relationship
  • Considered how use of social media impacts on the working relationships with service users
  • Discussed a range of scenarios where boundaries can become blurred and think about how these can be best managed
  • Developed strategies for more effective communication around professional boundaries
