January 2013 session

The January session is on Psychologically Informed Environments (PIEs). The session will be led by Dr Dean Whittington, an accredited psychotherapist and trainer

Enacting a Psychologically Informed Environment builds upon the existing good practice within a homeless centre and ignites psychological regeneration along with recovery.

Dean conducted therapy within a Central London Stage 1 homeless hostel for five years. Prior to that he established the first therapeutic street agency pioneering psychologically informed environments as detailed in his written work 'Beaten into Violence' 'Wrenching Open the Doors of Perception' and 'Bath of Steel'.

The session will range over the following headings:

  • Becoming an enlightened witness/surrogate chum
  • The impact of complex trauma and its long term effects – grounding, reminiscence
  • Understanding how 'hard' men form and learning to work with them
  • Psychological recovery and developing life plans
  • Vicarious Trauma, the impact on the worker and undertaking reflective practice groups

The session will be held on 30 January at The Connection at St Martins, 12 Adelaide Street, WC2N 4HW, and will run from 2.30-4.30. The nearest Tube stations are Charing Cross and Leicester Square.

The sessions are free to attend but places are limited so you must request a place by emailing us at the address below.

Numbers of places allocated to any one organisation may be restricted to ensure the widest possible representation.

We hope you will be able to attend.
