October & November 2011 sessions

We were delighted by the response to our two summer sessions. In June, Kevin Rothero, freelance trainer and consultant,  led us in a very stimulating session on Motivational Interviewing (part of our Communication Skills series), and then Jenny and Sharon from Eaves Housing for Women led the July session on Domestic Abuse and Helping Women Exit Prostitution – hugely thought-provoking.  Great thanks are due, especially as both sessions were very highly rated in our evaluation forms.

At both sessions we had our photos taken by the marvellous Marte from MLR Photo, who made the process very painless for us all. The results are terrific, and will be loaded up on the site over the next few weeks.

We are very happy to announce two further sessions. On 26 October we will be running a session on Trafficked PersonsMegan Stewart from Thamesreach will lead on the project she has been involved with which helps trafficked men, and Sally Montier from The Poppy Project will talk about their work with trafficked women. Some of the issues discussed will be identification of trafficked people, UK policies and the Criminal Justice System, asylum procedures, supporting health needs and victim care. Both guest speakers will be sharing their wealth of experience and be able to discuss issues that are affecting you and your clients. This should be an especially interesting and informative session.

Continuing our theme of Communication Skills, we are going to have Stacey Raymen-Barker, freelance trainer and youth worker, lead the session on 23 November 2011 on Transactional Analysis (TA). Transactional Analysis, at it’s heart, is about making sense of and deepening our understanding of human interactions. It is easy to understand and to apply to both professional and personal communications. Stacey will be highlighting some of the key concepts, and structuring exercises and discussions, so that attendees will go away with some practical skills and useful applications.

Both sessions will be held at The Connection at St Martins, 12 Adelaide Street, WC2N 4HW, and will run from 2.30-4.30. The nearest Tube stations are Charing Cross and Leicester Square.

LRF sessions are free to attend but you must request a place by emailing us at the address below:
